Brent Cleaner is committed to providing professional cleaning services in a safe and responsible manner for our clients, employees, contractors, visitors and the wider public. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to preventing accidents, managing risks and promoting a culture of safety in all cleaning activities carried out on client premises.
Our objective is to carry out all cleaning work in a way that prevents injury, ill health, damage to property and harm to the environment. Health and safety considerations are integral to how we plan, organise and deliver our services, and we expect everyone representing Brent Cleaner to take personal responsibility for following this policy.
Company management has overall responsibility for implementing and maintaining this Health and Safety Policy. This includes ensuring that appropriate systems, resources and supervision are in place so that work can be carried out safely and in compliance with relevant health and safety requirements for professional cleaning services.
Management will identify significant risks associated with cleaning activities, conduct and review risk assessments, and put in place control measures to reduce risks so far as is reasonably practicable. We will regularly review working methods, equipment, materials and sites to ensure safety standards are maintained and improved where needed.
All employees and contractors of Brent Cleaner share responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment. Every member of the team is required to:
Follow all safety instructions and training provided, use equipment and materials correctly and safely, report hazards, accidents, near misses or unsafe conditions without delay, cooperate with managers and supervisors on health and safety matters, wear suitable clothing and any personal protective equipment provided, and avoid any behaviour that might put themselves or others at risk.
Failure to follow health and safety procedures may result in disciplinary action, as the safety of our staff, clients and the public is our highest priority.
Before starting work at a new site or undertaking a new type of cleaning activity, Brent Cleaner will carry out risk assessments to identify potential hazards and decide on appropriate control measures. These assessments may include, for example, slip and trip hazards, use of chemicals, manual handling tasks, working at height, electrical safety and security matters on client premises.
Safe systems of work will be developed based on these assessments. Staff are trained to understand and follow these systems, including correct cleaning methods, safe use of equipment, and steps to take in the event of an emergency.
Cleaning agents and other substances used by Brent Cleaner are selected and managed to minimise health and environmental risks. We comply with relevant requirements for the control of substances hazardous to health.
All chemicals are stored, transported, diluted and applied according to manufacturer instructions and company procedures. Where products may present a risk to health, appropriate personal protective equipment is provided and used. Staff receive training in reading product information, recognising hazard symbols and knowing what actions to take in the event of spills, splashes or exposure.
Where the nature of the cleaning work requires it, Brent Cleaner provides suitable personal protective equipment, such as gloves, eye protection, masks, aprons or safety footwear. Employees must use the equipment provided, keep it in good condition and report any damage or defects so that replacements can be arranged.
Many cleaning tasks involve lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or repetitive movements. To reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, Brent Cleaner trains staff in correct manual handling techniques and organises work so that heavy or awkward loads are avoided wherever possible. Appropriate trolleys, mops, vacuum cleaners and other tools are supplied and must be used correctly.
All equipment used for cleaning, including electrical appliances, is maintained in safe working condition. Faulty equipment must be removed from use immediately and reported. Staff are not permitted to carry out unauthorised repairs.
When working at client locations, Brent Cleaner employees must respect and follow local site rules and emergency procedures, such as fire evacuation arrangements. We will coordinate with clients to understand any specific hazards at the premises, including restricted areas, security requirements or sensitive equipment.
We aim to minimise disruption to client operations and to ensure that cleaning activities do not introduce unnecessary risks, for example by leaving wet floors without warning signs or by obstructing access routes and exits.
All accidents, injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported promptly to the relevant supervisor or manager. Brent Cleaner will investigate incidents to determine root causes and identify improvements to prevent recurrence. Where necessary, findings will be shared with staff through training or updated procedures.
Employees are instructed in what to do in an emergency, including how to obtain first aid, how to respond to fires, chemical spills or other incidents, and how to alert the client and emergency services when required.
Brent Cleaner provides ongoing health and safety training appropriate to the roles and tasks of each employee. This may include induction training, on the job instruction, refresher sessions and toolbox talks on specific risks or procedures.
Supervisors are responsible for monitoring working practices to ensure that safety standards are followed and for providing guidance and feedback to staff. We encourage open communication so that employees feel able to raise safety concerns or suggest improvements.
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly and updated when necessary to reflect changes in our operations, industry best practice or applicable health and safety requirements. Lessons learned from incident investigations, audits and staff feedback are used to improve our arrangements.
By working together, Brent Cleaner aims to maintain a safe and healthy environment for everyone affected by our cleaning services and to deliver our work to a consistently high professional standard.
